Video Length Matters More Than You Think
Make it too long and people scroll past. Make it too short and your message gets lost. Here is the sweet spot for every major platform.
TikTok: 15 to 60 Seconds
TikTok favors short, punchy content. The best performing videos are 15 to 30 seconds. Motion graphics work great on TikTok because they are visually engaging from the first frame.
Instagram Reels: 15 to 30 Seconds
Reels follow the same rule as TikTok — short and snappy wins. For Instagram Stories, keep it even shorter at 5 to 15 seconds per clip.
YouTube Shorts: 30 to 60 Seconds
YouTube Shorts can be up to 60 seconds. For regular YouTube videos, 3 to 8 minutes works well for tutorials and explainers.
LinkedIn: 30 to 90 Seconds
LinkedIn audiences are more patient but still prefer concise content. Motion graphics with data points and stats perform very well here.
Twitter / X: 15 to 45 Seconds
Twitter moves fast. Keep videos under 45 seconds. Animated text and motion graphics get more engagement than talking-head videos.
General Rules for Every Platform
- Hook viewers in the first 2 seconds — this is non-negotiable
- Front-load your key message
- Use captions — 85% of social media videos are watched without sound
- Match the format — vertical for TikTok and Reels, square for feed posts, wide for YouTube
